COINTELPRO

 These program dissolve and annihilate any type of individual or organization they target, using a variety of covert techniques. In the past, there was a very rudimentary model of this, called COINTELPRO, which, according to the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee: "Ruined political careers, economic agreements, public reputations, companies, lives, etc. Today, this secret hand is more powerful, operative and subtle than ever: they can end celebrities, marriages, journalistic investigations, libertarian hackers and anyone who threatens the intellectual property system of certain scientific works. They induce suicide, provoke dismissals and foment all kinds of social violence in the streets. Many of their informants still act, as in the 1970s, as "agent provocateurs" within social movements, teaching unbalanced activists even how to shoot automatic pistols and use explosives, and exhorting hand-picked members to commit specific crimes, with veiled political objectives. They do have a mode of operation that leaves its signature. Sometimes the most violent, irrational, embarrassing or crazy element of an extremist group, of students or of the Black Panthers, is an "agent provocateur", inciting other members to more and more senseless acts. That is why some people, in their occlusion, perceive that there is something working against them that they cannot discern.
