The mobilization of mechanics (Homafars) in the air forces finally anarchized the pre revolutionary iranian armed forces
The mobilization of mechanics (Homafars) in the air forces finally anarchized the armed forces. Their strike in January 1979 and their participation in the street demonstrations indicated that the uprising was about to explode. Their resistance to the attacks of the Royal Guard on February 9 was the spark that set the grassland ablaze and armed the masses of Tehran. After three days the uprising had triumphed, spreading throughout the country and destroying the monarchy. The intervention of the workers' movement had been decisive, but the new government was in the hands of the nationalist bourgeois sectors led by Khomeini. According to the calendar of the Russian Revolution, we were in the stage of the February revolution. The masses had risen up, but they had handed over power to representatives of a sector of the bourgeoisie. An important difference is that the Russia of the Tsars, although underdeveloped, was an imperialist country, while the Iran of the Shah was a semi-colony of US imperialism. This is what explains the contradictions in which the new government headed by Khomeini will find itself, under the influence of pressure from the masses.

In Iran, the embryos of the current power had emerged. During the uprising, neighborhood committees, organized mainly by mosques, played a certain centralizing role. The new element is that after the fall of the Shah, factory committees began to emerge, with a tendency toward coordination. This form of organization, superior to the unions, which are also developing fabulously, is not yet the soviets, but no one can deny that they are embryonic forms of dual power. The mechanics were at the forefront of organizing among the soldiers. We saw them act before and during the uprising. After it, they continued their activity by protesting, for example, when Khomeini's prime minister, Bazargan, tried to appoint officers who had belonged to the Shah's army to the army. Their demands continued to the point of proposing the right to elect all officers and demanding that the civilian population be armed.
